For rookies, pirate ships are best friends because you get full bonus immediately regardless of your skill lvl. .
Once lasers are your love, your ship is Phantasm. The most important to him are not the wonderful bonuses hi has, but his limitations. You can fit only 3 medium lasers, so that something can be done ship to be capstable. It is important in the early play, according to me.

Use faction drones. Set drones to aggressive mod and to attack different targets (anyway they will attack same target, but sometimes they get confused and attack different targets).
